Avonmore Developments is a well-established investment company that is active in one of the hardest areas of the market to secure external funding, namely seed and early stage equity capital financing. To date Avonmore has made over 15 investments and has achieved several notable exits.

In an initial funding round Avonmore generally invests between £100,000 and £250,000 of its own funds. This might be either as sole investor, or as part of a larger investment syndicate where Avonmore will often act as the lead investor. Avonmore will also generally follow its money in any future funding rounds of an investment.

Avonmore's investments cover a number of different areas (For more information on our investment strategy, please take a look at the ADL FAQ's section) and consideration is given to all investment opportunities we receive. However, it should be noted that we currently only invest in UK based businesses and generally those with sub- £5million pre-money valuations. Experienced management teams, with defendable technology and a proven market demand are also key investment criteria.

Avonmore is run by brothers, Simon and Michael Blakey.

Simon Blakey - Director

Simon was initially a biochemist and management accountant by training and started Avonmore Developments in 1999 following several years working at Arthur Andersen Business Consulting where he specialised in financial service start-up projects.

Whilst at Andersens, Simon became personally involved in residential property development and this eventually drew him into business angel investing. Simon is in charge of deal negotiations and the ongoing management of Avonmore’s investment interests

As well has his business interests, Simon sits on the management board of the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. In his spare time he is a long distance runner and private pilot.

Michael Blakey – Director

After several years studying and working in the USA, Michael returned to England were he joined Sainsbury’s plc, specializing in Human Resources and IT. As well as working on the roll-out of “Sainsbury’s To You” internet shopping, Michael helped managed several projects including IT re-platforming of all Sainsbury’s HR and payroll systems.

Whilst working at Sainsbury’s Michael made a number of early-stage investments and this lead him into joining Avonmore full time in 2002. He is responsible for Avonmore’s marketing and deal sourcing.
